Occupy Naples calls for Resignation of ALEC puppet, State Rep. Rachel Burgin

Featured

Rachel Burgin, ALEC puppet, Should Resign

To be delivered to: The Florida State House : Florida State Representative Rachel Burgin should resign as she has failed to legislate according to the interests of the citizens of Florida. She is a puppet of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

Florida State Rep.Rachel Burgin (R) introduced legislation to reduce corporate taxes but forgot to remove the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) mission statement from her bill. She did not write this legislation, ALEC did. ALEC is backed by large corporations who have corrupted our political process. Rachel Burgin has failed to represent the interests of Floridians and has instead taken her marching orders from corporate puppet masters. Occupy Naples Florida calls on Rachel Burgin to resign immediately.

RALLY AT CHIPOTLE FOR FARMWORKER JUSTICE: A NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION

Food With Integrity?
Tell Chipotle to Respect Farmworkers’ Rights
When: Wednesday, July 25, 5:30-6:30PM
Where:  Chipotle, 9100 Strada Place #2110, Naples, FL 34108 (in the Mercato plaza with Whole Foods and Silverspot)

What: Conscientious consumers across the United States are calling on Chipotle to respect the rights of farmworkers who pick the tomatoes that go into Chipotle burritos. Join us as we call on Chipotle to live up to its ethical image and help put an end to farmworker exploitation.  Chipotle has refused to come to the table with farmworkers to sign a Fair Food Agreement, which would secure a wage increase and basic labor protections for workers in Florida fields.  The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) — an internationally-recognized, farmworker-led organization — has reached groundbreaking agreements with ten of the world’s leading food retailers, including Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s.  Now it is time to ask Chipotle to join them.

Why:  Chipotle has built its more than 1200 stores and $2.27 billion revenue on an image of serving “Food with Integrity.” Yet for six years they have refused to join the Fair Food Program. This refusal threatens to undermine the historic progress being made toward ensuring farmworkers’ human rights. Conscious consumers all over the country are calling on Chipotle to take an active role in eliminating farmworker abuse by signing a Fair Food Agreement with the CIW!
